IPAL Fellowship Fund

Becoming a licensed architect is a rigorous process, but it can be achieved in less time at The Boston Architectural College. The BAC has been accepted by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) for participation in its inaugural Integrated Path to Licensure Initiative (IPAL), which significantly shortens the time it takes to attain licensure.

As the only school in New England—and one of only 17 in the nation—chosen to be part of this innovative program, the BAC offers Master of Architecture students the opportunity to earn licensure immediately upon graduation. Being selected for this initiative recognizes the College’s longstanding tradition of integrating academic learning with experience in professional settings.

The IPAL program is a structured experience that allows students to complete the requirements for architectural licensure while earning their degree. It incorporates NCARB’s Architectural Experience Program (AXP) into our Master of Architecture curriculum, and students have the opportunity to take the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) before graduation.

The BAC seeks architecture and design firms to employ students in the IPAL program in cohorts of 2-3 students per firm. As an IPAL Firm Partner, you will employ talented and driven emerging design professionals following a customized academic and professional track to becoming licensed architects.

The IPAL Fellowship Fund is an expendable scholarship fund at The Boston Architectural College. Students participating in the IPAL (Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure) initiative at the College are eligible for an IPAL Fellowship. IPAL Partner Firms make annual contributions to fund these fellowships. These contributions, in turn, are awarded to individual students based on need and merit.
